Ilya Bryzgalov earns 3rd consecutive shutout as Flyers blank Devils 3-0.

When the Flyers signed Ilya Bryzgalov to a nine year $51 million contract this off season, the expectations were high (and that is putting it mildly). It seems as though the investment is finally paying off (and the timing could not be much better).

Bryzgalov earned his 3rd consecutive shutout tonight as the Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-0.

Depite struggling early on this season (and that is putting it nicely), Bryzgalov has been on fire as of late. In addition to his 3 straight shutouts, Bryzgalov has compiled a shutout streak of over 196 minutes, inching closer to the Flyers all time shutout streak of 227:04 set by John Vanbiesbrouck.

Flyers fans have long been waiting for a established winning goaltender to root for. While Bryzgalov has had a rough first half of his first season in Philadelphia, he has been (as he says) “humungous big” for the Flyers as of late.

The only question that remains is if he can keep this play up, especially during this crucial home stretch of the season.

So far, the answer has been yes.
