Newark, NJ-

The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils 2-1 to take a 1-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

The big question going into this series was how Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher will fare going into his first playoff series in nearly 7 years.

Well, Boucher gave Flyers fans something to cheer about in game 1.

Both goalies were stellar after one period. Halfway through the second period, Chris Pronger beat Martin Brodeur on the power play to make it 1-0 Flyers. It was a real back and forth game until later on in the second period when Mike Richards received a slick back hand pass from Ian Laperriere to make it 2-0 Flyers.

Carrying a 2 goal lead into the 3rd period, the Flyers kept the pressure on. However, the Flyers were unable to keep the Devils off of the scoreboard when Travis Zajak beat Brian Boucher with less than 4 minutes left in the game to cut the lead in half.

Boucher was able to hold off of the remaining flurry of shots to earn the Flyers a 1-0 series lead.
